ideas/questions re: Agee and Evans

1) What relationships does Agee set up between "journalism," "imagination," "Art" and "the facts"? Are these relationships coherent? (i.e. what do you suppose he intends, and is that different from what he actually does?)

1a) Furthermore, how do Agee's ideas relate to his writing style, as well as his decision to inject himself so fully into the text?

Who is Agee? And who is his ideal/imagined reader?

2) Does Walker Evans' description of Agee in the Foreward conflict with Agee's ideas as they are presented in the Preamble?

3) Describe the composition of Evans' photos. How do they relate to Agee's writing? What do they add? How do you read the text and the photos in conjunction with one another?

4) What struck you as you were reading? What else would you like to discuss?
